What might’ve caused that in the first place? Asking as someone who loves to drive through water...

Broken gas line ? Looks like a fuel fire.

Judging by how they seemed to have lost power right before the fire, I’m guessing a fuel line got disconnected and sprayed fuel on the exhaust manifold.

Hydro-locked the engine, which sent internal engine parts through the block, flinging oil everywhere and maybe severing a fuel line too.
And be very careful driving through water. When we had the huge rainstorm in Detroit in 2014, I saw way too many cars just try to charge through flooded intersections only to stop dead within 10 feet. I was able to crawl through with my truck since I knew the air intake snorkel is up by the right headlamp, but I definitely puckered any time some assfuck in his douche brodozer would barrel through at the same time and kick up a wake.

I’ve got a pretty good feel for the weak points, but yeah, I don’t go nearly deep enough to reach my air intake.
Usually.

Damn I never thought about causing wakes for other people. I'll have to be more considerate and mindful.

That’s a really basic looking Ferrari.
